Symonds tipped to respond to race row

Australia’s Andrew Symonds has been tipped to respond in the best way to a claim he sparked cricket’s racism row, but will on Friday play an Indian side refusing to keep quiet.

Australian captain Ricky Ponting on Thursday voiced his side’s disappointment at India’s Harbhajan Singh having his racial abuse suspension from the second Test downgraded to a fine and of a “character assassination” of Symonds.

Dhoni Refuses To Take Questions On Dravid And Ganguly

Team unaffected by Ganguly ouster: Dhoni

Indian vice-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday dismissed any notion of disquiet in the dressing room over the furore which has followed the team in the wake of Sourav Ganguly’s omission from the one-day squad.

“I think it has affected journalists more than it has affected us. We are back in the practice session, we trained in the morning, it has not affected us in any way,” said a defiant Dhoni on whether the team’s preparation for the crucial fourth and final Test had been disrupted by the supposed disharmony after the Ganguly ouster.

Vengsarkar justifies picking youngsters over seniors

The selection of the Indian One-Day team for the triangular series in Australia has generated a lot of debate after two former skippers – Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid – were not named in the 16-member squad.

Chairman of the Selection Committee Dilip Vengsarkar has, however, justified the selections for the triangular series saying there is a need for a new look team.

Dhoni behind Ganguly’s ouster

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Prasun Mukherjee Monday claimed that cricketer Sourav Ganguly was dropped from the One-day team in accordance with the wishes of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“Today (Monday) I talked to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sharad Pawar and he said the official policy is that the board does not interfere with the selection process,” Mukherjee told reporters here.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s ODI and Twenty20 captain, has got the team of his choice and there’s no place in it for Sourav Ganguly.

According to The Telegraph’s sources, the selectors left it to Dhoni to make a call and he pushed for “youth over experience”. That suggests Sourav’s fantastic ODI career (11,363 runs, average of 41.02) is over.
